Katharine was a Canadian emigrant, and was the daughter of David McDermott, whose own parents, Peter McDermott and Hannah Sisk, were Scottish and Irish emigrants, respectively; and of an Irish emigrant, Katharine O’Brien, who was of part Scottish descent.
