Youssou N’Dour is a Senegalese singer, songwriter, musician, composer, actor, businessperson, and politician. He is known for the international hit song 7 Seconds. He was Minister of Tourism of Senegal, from 5 April, 2012 to September 2013. He is regarded as one of the most celebrated African musicians in history. He is also known as Youssou Ndour and Youssou Madjiguène Ndour.
Youssou is the son of Ndeye Sokhna Mboup and Elimane N’Dour. His father is Serer and his mother Toucouleur. Culturally, he is Wolof. Patrilineally, he is from the noble N’Dour family. Maternally, he has a connection to the griot caste, though he was not raised that way. He is married to Aida Coulibaly.
Youssou is a Muslim.
